From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, demons, and sinister influences expanding in power within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and presented the initial group of characters who will split off from the primary party to embark on their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.
This warrior group consists of Teor (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
With a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that having everyone at one table would be impossible.
That’s why, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Strategists, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
As described by the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for players who are drawn to a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are scarce.
At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might seem mismatched, but the actions of episode 3 show why these particular heroes are best suited for the warrior group.
Reasons to Leave
First, the party understands precisely where to head next after a intense first encounter with the enemy group.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose death initiated the story’s plot—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, invading the hidden lair, striking Thimble, and stealing all the enchanted items to auction.
The traitor then paid off his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, beyond the urban center, with Cyd pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each adventurer has a individual motive to depart the metropolitan area:
- The rogue, as the companion and trusted friend, seeks revenge.
- The adventurer knows the region and warns that it is a hostile environment.
- The strong character and The cleric, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to execute Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their status as key figures in the powerful family could help the group reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, Teor pledged a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making lingering locally too risky:
- Thimble and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- The warrior and The cleric betrayed the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- Teor is wanted dead by the family.
This leaves them little choice but to travel to the northern region in search of the antagonist.
Future Episodes
From the latest episode’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group will be absent the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to form the Questers and Planners parties.
Viewers can look forward to finding out which characters will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on the upcoming Thursday.
